Come out and join in another Breakfast and Bees discussion this Saturday March 9. 9:30 until 12. We are located inside Tupelos Bakery and Cafe, 220 W Washington St Monticello. Weather of late has been crazy, no rain no winter and then we get rain and winter just as bees are brooding up well. Such are the trials of a beekeeper.

This week we will discuss hive inspections, swarming, and building up your bees. The honey flow is not far off but unless you have strong colonies and control swarming you will not be able to take advantage of it. As always the conversation can go in other directions.

The great food and treats by Kim and her Tupelos team cant be beat and is well worth the drive over.

We have had such great success with our equipment building workshops along with numerous requests to repeat frame building that we will be conducting another frame building & wiring workshop on Feb 9 from 9:30-12:30 on the porch at Tupelos Bakery and Cafe in Monticello. We have supplies for sale or if you already have supplies and just need a little help in getting it together, come on out. Great food, fellowship and fun.

We will also discuss brood nest management. Bees are brooding up pretty strong now. Additional room is a great deterrent to swarming plus it allows you to build up large populations for splitting or honey production. Now is the time to give that room. We will have some assembled equipment for sale along with plenty of unassembled gear, feeders and pollen supplements.

Come join us for another fun morning of Breakfast and Bees Saturday 1/26/13 9:30-12:00 at Tupelos Bakery 220 West Washington Monticello, Fl . We will be wiring frames and installing wax foundation. Tools and jigs for getting the job done will be available for your use. We have some extra frames from our last building session so if you missed that one you can get a good deal on some assembled frames and learn how to install foundation.

With the exceptional mild winter we have, I am seeing a lot of early brood buildup. Make sure you are ready as it could be a very early swarming season. Check your brood area to make sure there is adequate room for the queen to lay. Remember it is a good practice to replace 30% of your brood foundation annually and this is the ideal time to do it.
